For those who haven't been following the news about Net Neutrality, which is slated to be a big problem if not contested, apparently tomorrow is an internet-wide protest in the same spirit as the SOPA protests of years ago.
Net Neutrality isn't just worth saving, it's absolutely necessary. We don't want to live with internet that runs on the same bullshit rules as cable companies. We don't want to pay extra for access to specific websites we use every day as an add-on to the money we already spend on the expensive internet connection.
A sad and honest truth of this country is that the internet is no longer a luxury, it's become a necessity. Every modern business utilizes it for trade and communication, most schools demand it for research and assignment completion, and job hunting in this day and age absolutely requires it. How can they dare to charge extra for a service that is not only necessary, but already expensive as hell? And what's more, how can we allow them to get away with it?
This can't stand. Net Neutrality has already been ruled against by the courts, and it's time we brought it back. If we don't, we're going to be at the mercy of the same people that tell us: "Oh, so sorry, but you need to upgrade to the [insert product type] package to get THOSE channels....sooooorry."
